Hindi Education in Northeast India: Challenges, Possibilities & Expert Insights

A one-day national seminar on the theme “Hindi Education in Northeast India: Challenges and Possibilities” was organized on 14 November 2025 at Mizoram Hindi Training College, Aizawl, under the joint auspices of the Central Hindi Institute, Shillong Centre (Headquarters—Agra). The Chief Guest of the seminar was Prof. Parth Sarthi Pandey, Regional Director, Central Hindi Institute, Shillong Centre. The Guests of Honour included Prof. Dinesh Kumar Choubey, Head, Department of Hindi, North-Eastern Hill University and Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head, Department of Hindi, Mizoram University, who graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. On this occasion, the Principal of the college, Dr. Judy Lalaingwari, welcomed and honored the Chief Guest, Prof. Parth Sarthi Pandey, and the distinguished guests, Prof. Dinesh Kumar Choubey and Prof. Sanjay Kumar, by presenting them with flower bouquets and traditional shawls.
The programme began with a welcome song presented by the students. The Seminar Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Mizoram Hindi Training College, Dr. Lalmuanawma Sailo, highlighted the relevance of this event for the expansion of Hindi education in his welcome address. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Amish Verma, Associate Professor, Mizoram University. The Chief Guest, Prof. Parth Sarthi Pandey, expressed insightful views on the challenges and future possibilities of Hindi teaching in his detailed speech. He shared his experiences gained from training Hindi teachers in the remote regions of Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura. He said that Hindi is the language of the masses and that people in the Northeast region are willingly accepting it. He emphasized that local Hindi teachers play an important role in increasing the use of Hindi. This is possible only when teachers remain committed to their duties. He stated that challenges serve as guidelines for future possibilities; therefore, it is necessary to view challenges in a positive light. Guest of Honour Prof. D.K. Choubey shared important thoughts on the growing acceptance of Hindi in Northeast India and its future direction. Guest of Honour Prof. Sanjay Kumar discussed the challenges and possibilities of Hindi teaching in the context of Mizoram. Dr. Judy Lalengvari, Principal, Mizoram Hindi Training College emphasized the significance of the seminar in her address. At the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Marina Lalthlamuani, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College delivered the vote of thanks and the programme was conducted by Dr. Ajay Kumar Ranjit, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the first technical session was held, chaired by senior professor Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head, Department of Hindi, Mizoram University. In this session, Dr. Kanchan Verma, Assistant Professor, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, J.P. Pandey IRPS, Union Public Service Commission, Dr. Shweta Dwivedi, Associate Professor, Department of Education, Mizoram University, Dr. Sushma Kumari, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, Mizoram University and Dr. Lalrinkimi, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Government Aizawl College presented valuable insights on their respective research topics. At the end of the session, Prof. Sanjay Kumar delivered his concluding remarks and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vanlalpari Chinzah, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College.
The second session, held in the afternoon, was chaired by Dr. Amish Verma, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, Mizoram University. In this session, research papers were presented by Dr. Kathy Rohlupui, Assistant Professor, Government Aizawl College; Mrs. Lallawmzuali Hauhnar, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College, Ms. Ngurnunsangi, Research Scholar, Department of Hindi, Mizoram University, Dr. Marina Lalthlamuani, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College and Dr. C. Malsawmtluangi, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College. The session concluded with remarks by Dr. Amish Verma and the vote of thanks by Dr. Lalchhuanawma, Assistant Professor, Mizoram Hindi Training College.
In the final phase of the seminar, a cultural programme was organized, coordinated by Mrs. Lallawmzuali, Assistant Professor, MHTC. On this occasion, students of Mizoram Hindi Training College presented group songs, solo songs and flute performances. Chakma and Mizo cultural dances especially captivated the audience. A detailed report was presented by Dr. Ajay Kumar Ranjit, Assistant Professor, MHTC and the programme concluded successfully with a vote of thanks by Dr. Elizabethi, Assistant Professor, MHTC. Enthusiastic participation by the teachers, students of Mizoram Hindi Training College and other guests made this national seminar successful, meaningful and memorable.
The main outcome of this one-day national seminar was a deep and meaningful discussion on the real challenges and possibilities of Hindi teaching in Northeast India. Experts from various universities and institutions clarified the theoretical and practical aspects of Hindi education and presented new solutions. The participants developed enthusiasm, awareness and inspiration to work in new directions for Hindi teaching. The seminar opened new avenues for research, dialogue, and collaboration and proved to be an important step toward strengthening Hindi education in Mizoram and the entire Northeast.
