Guwahati, April 18:
In a significant blow to interstate drug trafficking networks, authorities seized narcotics worth Rs 71 crore in two separate operations at Amingaon, following specific intelligence inputs.

In the first operation, based on information regarding the transportation of narcotics from a neighbouring state, a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number AS 01 DA 9276 was intercepted. Upon inspection, officials recovered 40 packets of heroin, concealed in secret chambers under the footboard of the driver and co-driver. The seized heroin weighed 520 grams (excluding packaging) and is estimated to be worth Rs 4 crore in the illegal drug market.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22), a resident of Loknathpur under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district, was arrested. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him.

In a separate operation, another input led to the interception of a truck bearing registration number AS 01 SC 5622. Acting on the alert, officials stopped the vehicle at Amingaon and recovered 2,70,000 Ya Ba tablets (also known as WY tablets), which contain methamphetamine. The contraband is valued at approximately Rs 67 crore in the illicit market.

The driver of the truck, Nur Islam (34), son of Manek Jamadar from Golibandha village under Sarthebari Police Station in Bajali district, was apprehended on the spot.

With these operations, enforcement agencies have successfully prevented the circulation of a massive quantity of narcotics and dealt a substantial blow to organized drug trafficking in the region.

Further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify others involved in the network.
